More than likely, the Cleveland Browns will select Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner with the No. 6 overall pick, but ESPN's Mel Kiper says not to count out West Virginia QB Geno Smith.
Steve Doerschuk writes on CantonRep.com how Kiper says it might make more sense for the Browns to take Smith than to pounce on a highly-rated outside linebacker type. He suggested it would be wasteful to add defenders Ziggy Ansah or Dion Jordan to a team that recently signed free agent Paul Kruger and has a strong young player in Jabaal Sheard.
If the Browns opt not to spend a first-round pick on a quarterback for the third time in seven drafts, they might draft a quarterback with a later pick. Oklahoma’s Landry Jones is one to watch.
“He was considered at one point to be the next Sam Bradford (No. 1 overall pick in 2010),” Kiper said. “(Matt) Barkley’s performance leveled off (at USC). He’s got talent. He’s now considered a third- or fourth-round pick.”
